Good afternoon everyone,
We are just issuing a brief reminder regarding Firmware Updates across devices; and more specifically our advisories and recommendations.
We would not recommend doing firmware updates - and will not - unless there is a fault found with the current version, there is an incompatibility between devices or there is a feature change to the firmware that is beneficial.
The main reason for this, is to ensure devises operate as expected. As the saying goes: "if its not broken don't fix it". Manufacturers have been seen to alternate code slightly or change functionality with newer versions, which can disrupt the currently installed system. We often see firmware be updated and that cause more issues than good; this is mainly down to the following reasons:
- Manufacturers remove certain features/options which can no longer be used.
- Bugs are a common factor that are often found with updates.
Should you wish to carry out a firmware update, please do engage with the support team first, they can look into the new release and advise you whether they think it is suitable, what changes have been deployed and finally any known errors with the new release. As well as plan an upgrade path for the system.
Have a great day,
Care Support Team
